Artist Creates Beautiful, Towering Sculptures Made From Old Machine Parts
My artistic abilities extend to painting a piece of furniture, and that’s about it. I think that’s why I’m always so in awe of artists who create these spectacular works that are the true embodiment of talent. Penny Hardy is one of these uber talented creators who makes big, beautiful sculptures out of some very unexpected materials – including old machine parts.
Although originally trained as a scientific illustrator, Penny began experimenting in three-dimensional sculpture. “There is a richness in discarded man-made metal items, skillfully made and creating their own mechanical energy, she brings that depth to new forms, re-using that energy for a different purpose, transforming their function to create a new entity,” notes the bio section of Penny’s website. Let’s take a look at some of her incredible pieces!
This piece, “The Kiss,” was made from recycled mild steel and is part of Penny’s “Blown Away” series.
“You Blew Me Away 8” is a striking piece made from bits and pieces of scrap metal.
“Duality” is another awe-inspiring piece made from mild steel.
“Erosion,” made from mild steel, is one of my favorites.
“Yin & Yang” is another extremely visually interesting piece.
And human-inspired figures aren’t all that Penny does – her series of hares are so charming.
And how amazing are these dance sculptures?!
Aside from all of these beautiful and whimsical sculptures, Penny also does commissions. To view more of her incredible art and learn more about her inspirations, you can visit the artist’s website here. Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your wonderful creative mind, Penny!
