Hairdresser Lists 4 Things We Should Avoid at the Salon

I recently stumbled upon a viral TikTok video that had me nodding my head in agreement while also cringing a bit. @emilyyyroses, a talented hairdresser and cosmetologist, took to TikTok to share her pet peeves about salon clients. As someone who loves hitting the salon and getting a fresh haircut, I realized that I might be guilty of a few of these no-nos.

1. Dirty Hair Dilemma

Alright, let’s start with the big one – dirty hair. According to Emily, it’s a big no-no. As a regular salon-goer, I never thought twice about showing up with hair that hadn’t been washed in a day or two. However, after watching Emily’s video, I’ve learned my lesson. Clean hair is essential because it’s much easier for stylists to work with. Dirty hair can be quite a handful for them. So, next time, I’ll be making sure to show up with squeaky clean locks.

2. The Intense Stare

One of the things Emily mentioned that caught my attention was when clients stare into their hairdresser’s eyes while getting their hair washed. I mean, it’s great to have a connection with your stylist, but maintaining intense eye contact while they’re trying to work their magic can be a bit unnerving. So, the next time you’re at the shampoo bowl, maybe try looking around the salon, or just close your eyes and enjoy the experience.

3. Late Arrivals with No Coffee

Oh, this one hits close to home. Emily pointed out that showing up late with a coffee in hand, but not bringing one for your stylist, is a definite salon faux pas. As a coffee lover myself, I’ve been known to stroll in a tad behind schedule with my grande latte. But after hearing Emily’s honest opinion, I’ll make sure to arrive on time and maybe even bring an extra coffee as a peace offering.

4. The Mirror Gaze

Guilty as charged! Emily also mentioned how clients often turn their heads to watch themselves in the mirror while getting their hair done. I have to admit; I’ve done this more times than I can count. It’s hard to resist checking out the transformation as it unfolds, but I now understand that it can be a bit distracting for the stylist. I’ll try to be patient and admire the final result when it’s all done.

After watching Emily’s TikTok video, I couldn’t help but chuckle at how relatable her pet peeves are. Many of us have probably been guilty of at least one of these things at some point in our salon adventures. It’s all in good fun, though, and Emily’s video serves as a  reminder that a little salon etiquette goes a long way.

Let’s remember that the salon is a place of relaxation, transformation, and connection. By being considerate and mindful of our hairdressers’ preferences, we can ensure that our salon experiences are enjoyable for everyone involved. So, the next time you visit your favorite stylist, remember these tips and keep the good vibes flowing.
