Photographers are often present to capture the best moments of someone’s life. But one photographer’s job is a little different. Ross Taylor released a series of photographs titled “Last Moments” which capture pet owners during the heartbreaking moments of euthanizing their beloved pets. The photos are devastating, but represent the special bond shared by pet owners and their animals.
Based in Tampa, Florida, Taylor was connected with grieving pet owners through Lap of Love, a team of veterinarians who perform at-home euthanasia for pets. This allows pets to remain in their safe space during their last moments, and brings some much needed comfort for pet owners experiencing the immense grief of losing their furry friend.
Having to say goodbye to a beloved pet is the sacrifice we make in order to experience their love.

I have heard some people I know say they were not present during their pet’s euthanasia because it was too hard for them. If you own a pet, you owe it to them to be there during their final moments. That is the price we pay for having them love us unconditionally their entire lives. The least you can do to repay them is ensuring the person they love most is right by their side at the very end.
